The directives that usually apply
Electrical and electronic equipment rarely sits under a single piece of legislation. Getting the combination right at the start determines the testing you need and the structure of the Technical File.
- EMC Directive 2014/30/EU — electromagnetic compatibility
- Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU — 50–1000 V AC or 75–1500 V DC
- RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU — restriction of hazardous substances
- Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU — any wireless interface
- Ecodesign and energy labelling where the product is in scope
- WEEE registration obligations in each Member State of sale
Testing, documentation and conformity
Once the applicable directives are fixed, the harmonised standards follow. We plan the testing around them so laboratory time is spent once, on the right tests, against the right standard versions.
