ISO 9001 for CNC Machining Shops,
Built Around the Shop Floor
We help precision machine shops and contract manufacturers implement a quality management system that matches how parts actually move through the shop — quoting and contract review, programming and setup, in-process inspection, outside processing and final release — documented once, used on the floor, and ready for the certification audit.

A Quality System That Holds Up to a Customer Audit
What ISO 9001 requires of a machine shop
ISO 9001 is a general standard, so the value is in how it lands on a shop floor. For a machining business that means writing the system around the things that decide whether a part ships: what gets measured and with what, how a program change is controlled, where material certs live, and what happens when a feature comes back out of tolerance. Done properly, the manual reflects the travellers and inspection records you already keep.
- Contract review, quoting and customer print revisions
- Programming, setup approval and first article inspection
- Calibration of gauges, micrometers and CMMs
- Material certification and lot traceability
- Outside processing: heat treat, plating and anodising
From gap analysis to certification
Implementation works best when the system reflects how your shop already runs. We document the routings, inspection steps and sign-offs your people use, close the gaps against ISO 9001, and prepare your team for the certification audit — without adding paperwork that stops at the office door.
- Gap analysis against ISO 9001, mapped to your existing routings
- Documented information, work instructions and records structure
- Calibration and measurement system control
- Control of nonconforming product, scrap and rework
- Support through Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits
ISO 9001 or AS9100 for your shop?
If you are quoting aerospace work, your customer will usually ask for AS9100 rather than ISO 9001 — it contains ISO 9001 in full and adds configuration management, counterfeit part prevention and first article inspection to AS9102. Automotive tiers tend to ask for IATF 16949 instead. ISO 9001 is the right target when your customers are industrial, medical or general manufacturing, or when you want the base system running before stepping up to a sector standard. We can look at where your customers are heading before you commit, and build the system so it extends later rather than being rewritten.
