AS9100 contains ISO 9001 in full and adds the requirements the aerospace sector could not leave to interpretation. The quality system architecture is the same; the additions are where the audit time goes, and they are the parts a general-purpose registrar cannot help you with.

Most of our AS9100 clients already hold ISO 9001, which means the management system skeleton is already there and the work is confined to the aerospace additions. Is AS9100 different from ISO 9001?
Yes, and not only in content. AS9100 is an industry-controlled scheme: results are registered in OASIS, the database your customers actually check, and auditors must be individually authenticated rather than merely working for an accredited registrar. That constrains who can certify you and how long the audit takes, and it is why an AS9100 project is not simply an ISO 9001 project with extra clauses. One further point worth planning around — AS9100 Revision D is built on ISO 9001:2015, and the series is being renamed to IA9100, expected in 2027. There is no Revision E. If you are weighing up timing, we can work through that with you before any implementation begins.
